Samarkand Suzani

Samarkand Suzani can be traced back as far as the early 19th century. By the late 19th century the Samarkand Suzani began to grow in size to display wealrh. As the Suzani grew the patterns became much bigger and bolder.

The design on the Samarkands originally represented the celestial bodies and can be traced to nomadic cults and Zoroastrianism. As time progressed the nine circles came to represent the 9 months of pregnancy.
